Showing up in Gemini and Google Shopping

Gemini answers shopping questions with product data from Google's Shopping Graph, and Google Merchant Center is how your products get into it. Paz completes the product information behind those listings and your PDPs, then tracks whether your products appear when shoppers ask ChatGPT, Google AI and Gemini what to buy.

How products reach Gemini

There is no Gemini feed to build. Products reach Gemini through the Google Merchant Center listings you already maintain for Google Search and the Shopping tab, and for Shopify stores through the Google & YouTube sales channel.

Google's free listings documentation lists Gemini among the places eligible products can appear at no cost, next to Search, Images, Lens, YouTube and the Shopping tab. Free listings are on by default for most GMC accounts, and the requirements are the ones you already meet for Shopping: policy compliance, a return policy and shipping settings.

On the shopper's side, Google's Gemini shopping help explains that Gemini uses information from the Shopping Graph to find products, compare options and show product cards with descriptions, reviews and buying options. Shopping in Gemini is available in a published list of countries that includes the United States, Canada, Australia, India and Japan. The list currently has no European markets, so check it for yours.

For Shopify stores, Shopify's Google AI Mode and Gemini channel is rolling out to eligible stores through agentic storefronts. Products are made available to Google AI Mode and Gemini through the Google & YouTube sales channel or a direct GMC connection, with automatic product and shipping sync on. Direct checkout inside the channel needs a United States store selling to United States customers, a valid GMC account and the agentic storefronts terms accepted. Stores elsewhere are still discoverable, and shoppers are sent to the online store to buy.

Google is also rolling out a checkout feature on AI Mode and Gemini for select merchants with eligibility in the United States, Canada and Australia. It is a separate onboarding in GMC for merchants who want purchases completed on Google. Discovery in Gemini comes from the listings themselves.

What Paz reads

Paz reads your GMC product status, your commerce platform and the questions shoppers ask in your category together, so the gaps that keep products out of Gemini answers are fixed at the source.

  • Google Merchant Center: product status, disapprovals, warnings and attribute coverage, including the size, color, material, gender and item group values that decide whether a full range is eligible.
  • Your product record: products, variants, descriptions and metafields in Shopify, Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce, or a feed file for stores on other platforms.
  • Your PDPs: the visible fit, material, compatibility and care details and the structured data Google reads, so page and feed say the same thing.
  • The questions shoppers ask: a tracked set built from your buyer personas and categories, with the answers recorded by appearance type. Brand mention, product card and citation are counted separately.

What Paz publishes

Our experts draft the missing product information from your own sources, check it against agreed guidelines, and Paz publishes the approved changes to GMC and your product record, where Gemini reads them.

The changes are the ones Google's product data specification asks for and shoppers ask about: titles rewritten to the fit, material and use shoppers type, descriptions that state what a product is for, complete variant attributes so every size and color stays eligible, identifiers, and conversational attributes that answer the pre-purchase questions in the feed itself. Approved attributes go to GMC and the supported product fields are written back to Shopify, Adobe Commerce or Salesforce Commerce, so the Google & YouTube channel and any other feed built from the catalog inherit them. Changes outside the agreed guidelines come to you for a decision. The integrations page lists what is read and written for each system.

How Gemini appearances are measured

Paz checks the tracked questions in Gemini, Google AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity and Copilot on a schedule and reports which products appear, which competitors appear instead and what changed after each round, against the baseline captured before the work starts.

Google reports on the same surfaces from two places. In GMC, the AI performance insights report shows share of voice, popular product terms and attribute completeness for conversational shopping on AI Mode and AI Overviews, for English-language accounts in the United States, Canada, Australia, India and New Zealand. Google's announcement of the report describes shopping journeys that start from AI Mode, AI Overviews or the Gemini app. In Search Console, the generative AI performance report counts impressions and clicks from AI Overviews and AI Mode on Google Search. Our experts read both alongside the tracked questions, because the reports tell you how often you appeared and the tracked questions tell you for which products and against whom.

Traffic is the third signal. Visits from Gemini carry gemini.google.com as the referrer, and the GA4 default channel group places them in the AI Assistant channel. Paz tracks that channel against the baseline and treats it as a floor. How to track traffic and sales from ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot walks through the setup.

Gemini, Google AI Mode and AI Overviews

Buyers often mean all three when they say Google AI. AI Overviews sit on top of a Google Search result, Google AI Mode is the conversational search tab, and Gemini is the standalone app. Accurate Merchant Center product data supports shopping appearances across Google Search and Gemini, alongside product information on your PDPs. Paz reports the surfaces separately, because appearance rates differ. See the Google AI Mode page, or read which fixes carry across ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot.

Frequently asked questions

Do we need a separate feed for Gemini?+
No. Gemini draws on the Shopping Graph, and your Google Merchant Center product data is what feeds it. The same listings that make your products eligible for free listings on Google Search and the Shopping tab are what Gemini can show, so the work goes into one feed and one set of product pages.
Our products are in Merchant Center. Why do they still not show up in Gemini?+
Being eligible is the first step. Gemini considers the question in front of it, so a shoe listed with only a style name and price leaves out details about fit, material and use that a shopper may ask for. Paz starts from the questions shoppers ask in your category and completes the product information those answers can use.
Can shoppers buy inside Gemini?+
For some merchants. Google is rolling out a checkout feature on AI Mode and Gemini for select merchants in the United States, Canada and Australia, and Shopify stores in the United States can get a Shopify-powered direct checkout as the channel rolls out to eligible stores. Everyone else is sent to the product page to buy, which is where the product information still has to be complete.
How do we know whether Gemini is sending us traffic?+
Visits from Gemini arrive with gemini.google.com as the referrer, and the GA4 default channel group has an AI Assistant channel for them. Paz tracks that channel against a baseline, and reports it as a floor, because some assistant visits land as direct or unassigned.
Does the work we did for ChatGPT carry over to Gemini?+
Much of it. Identifiers, availability, attributes, product page copy and reviews are read by every assistant. Gemini and Google AI Mode add Merchant Center on top, so the feed has to say the same thing as the page. Results still differ by assistant, which is why Paz measures each one separately.
