Three systems, three jobs
Feed tools transform and deliver. PIMs store and govern. AI visibility work decides what the information should say and fills the gaps. Each system keeps the job it was built for.
- What a feed management tool moves. It takes your catalog export, applies rules and mappings, and delivers a valid file to Google Merchant Center, marketplaces and ad platforms on a schedule. It can rewrite titles by rule, split variants, exclude products and fix format errors. Its raw material is whatever the catalog contains.
- What a PIM holds. The governed record of each product: attributes, families, assets, completeness scores and the approval workflow around them. It is the place a value should live if you want every channel to have it.
- What AI visibility work decides. Which products matter for which shopper questions, which attributes and answers are missing when ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity or Copilot leave you out, what the correct value is from your sources, and whether the fix landed on the next sync and in the next answer.
Put together: the work decides what the record should say, the PIM holds it, and the feed tool carries it to each channel.
Setup one: feed management tool to Google Merchant Center
The catalog exports to the feed tool, which delivers to Merchant Center. Paz reads the GMC diagnostics and the tracked questions, and writes to the catalog fields the feed tool pulls from.
This is the most common setup among the brands we meet. The ecommerce platform or PIM exports to the feed tool, the tool maps and delivers to Google Merchant Center, and GMC feeds Google Shopping, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini.
What Paz reads. GMC diagnostics and item-level issues, the delivered feed, the product pages, the questions shoppers ask that we track per assistant, and the analytics behind them.
What Paz writes. The source fields the feed tool reads from: attributes, titles, descriptions and Q&A in your ecommerce platform through supported fields, and corrections to GMC settings where a fix belongs there. The feed tool picks the values up on its next run, so the rule set in the tool keeps working and the better information flows through it. When a mapping rule in the tool is the cause, for example a title template that drops the attribute shoppers ask about, Paz documents the change and brings it to the feed owner.
Setup two: Shopify native sync
Shopify Catalog feeds ChatGPT and Copilot, and the Google and YouTube channel feeds Merchant Center. Paz writes approved fields to Shopify, so Catalog and the Google feed inherit them.
Shopify stores often run with no separate feed tool. Agentic storefronts make eligible products available to ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot through Shopify Catalog, and to Google AI Mode and Gemini through the Google and YouTube sales channel or a GMC account. The admin shows how product details map to Catalog and how variants group, and a search preview shows how products might rank.
What Paz reads. Shopify products, variants and metafields, the Catalog mapping and preview, GMC diagnostics for the Google channel, and the tracked questions per assistant.
What Paz writes. Approved product fields in Shopify: titles, descriptions, attributes held in metafields, and Q&A content. Shopify Catalog and the Google feed read the same record, so one change reaches ChatGPT, Copilot and Google. Where ChatGPT is also fed directly, Paz builds and pushes the OpenAI product feed from the same catalog.
Setup three: PIM to feed
The PIM is the record, and it exports to the platform or the feed tool. Paz reads the PIM data and prepares review-ready values for the PIM owner, so the record stays authoritative.
Brands with a PIM want the PIM to stay the source of truth, and they are right. A value written only to the storefront or the feed is overwritten on the next export.
What Paz reads. PIM families, attributes and completeness, the downstream feed and page output, GMC diagnostics and the tracked questions, so each gap is traced to the PIM field behind it.
What Paz writes. Review-ready attribute values and answers, drafted from your product pages, supplier information and existing PIM data, listed by product and handed to your PIM owner for entry or import. Once the PIM holds them, the next export carries them to the platform, the feed tool and every channel downstream. Storefront and GMC fields that live outside the PIM are published directly within the guidelines you approve.
What the work decides, in every setup
Which products first, which attributes and answers are missing for the questions shoppers ask, what the correct value is from your sources, and whether the fix reached each assistant.
Whatever the plumbing, the decisions are the same:
- Which products first. By margin, stock, season and the collections you are pushing, read from your priorities.
- Which gaps matter. The attribute or answer missing behind each question where ChatGPT or Google AI Mode showed a competitor. Google's optional conversational attributes in GMC are one example of a field a feed tool can carry only if the catalog holds it.
- What the value is. Written from your sources, within your claims guidelines. If your sources disagree, we check with you before changing anything.
- Whether it landed. Checked after the next feed run, and tracked in the answers per assistant against the baseline.
